Within a week of the disaster in New Orleans the Hip Hop community responds with outrage at the American government’s mishandling of the tragedy. Hip Hop legend Chuck D has spoken out as well as the Reverend Al Sharpton. Rap superstar Kanye West, in an impassioned deviation from his ‘prepared’ statement on live television, said “Goerge Bush doesn’t care about black people.” Echoing these sentiments, The Dope Poet Society has released a new song entitled Hurricane Katrina, attacking the shocking hypocrisy and racism of the Bush administration. The song can be downloaded for free and the lyrics can be read from www.DopePoets.com. Kanye’s interview can be seen on DemocracyNow.org.
